Life Lessons

Hi friends

Recently i had the good fortune of running into an article by Mr. Narayan Murthy published in THE ECONOMIC TIMES.
He , in this article, has related to us , various truths of life which i have found very enlightening. And hence i find them worth sharing. And i plan to do so in 5 parts. So heres the first in the series. Let there be light...........

Life lessons from Narayana Murthy of Infosys (1st part is as below)

I would like first to share some of these key life events with you, in the hope that these may help you understand my struggles and how chance events and unplanned encounters with influential persons shaped my life and career.

Later, I will share the deeper life lessons that I have learned. My sincere hope is that this sharing will help you see your own trials and tribulations for the hidden blessings they can be.

The first event occurred when I was a graduate student in Control Theory at IIT, Kanpur, in India. At breakfast on a bright Sunday morning in 1968, I had a chance encounter with a famous computer scientist on sabbatical from a well-known US university.

He was discussing exciting new developments in the field of computer science with a large group of students and how such developments would alter our future. He was articulate, passionate and quite convincing. I was hooked. I went straight from breakfast to the library, read four or five papers he had suggested, and left the library determined to study computer science.

Friends, when I look back today at that pivotal meeting, I marvel at how one role model can alter for the better the future of a young student. This experience taught me that valuable advice can sometimes come from an unexpected source, and chance events can sometimes open new doors.

Be popular

What is being popular??

Just people knowing you is not popularity in the real sense. You should not only be visible to the public but also be preferred by people. Its not an easy task as it expects you to keep a vast majority of people happy which is a very demanding task as people vary in traits and behaviour.

The best way to socialize an
d mix with the variety of people you meet is to kno about them. It always helps to be a good listener. you ned ti make the other person feel like he himsel is a great talker. You should let him express himself fully without interrupting him but prolonged silence may give the narrator a feeling that you are not really involved so a slight acknwledgement , a slight tilt of the head, is enough a signal to really stimulate the person to tell you more.

Another important thing is that you my not remember the persons habits, his address etc. but remebering his name is absolutely imperative. One should may extreme detail to how a name is spelt and pronounced because every human being attaches maximum significance to his name. A badly pronounced name is enough to earn a slight scowl .

Such small intricacies of life often determine our degree magnetism among our friends and colleagues.
